Marketing Strategy Consulting in Toronto
Marketing strategy is the plan behind your marketing. It decides who you are trying to reach, what you should say to them, where you should say it, and what to do first, so you stop spending time and money on marketing that goes nowhere.
What marketing strategy actually is
Many small businesses do marketing backwards. They post when they remember, try a new platform because someone suggested it, or spend on an ad without knowing who it is for. A few weeks later, nothing has changed, and they do not know why.
Marketing strategy fixes the order. It starts with your customer: who they are, what they need, and how they decide. Then it looks at your positioning: what makes your business different, and how to say that in plain language. Then it sets priorities: which channels deserve your time, which ones do not, and what a realistic plan looks like for your budget.
That plan is the direction. The execution, posts, campaigns, Google profile work, and website updates, follows the plan, rather than the other way around. Adam does the implementation, not just the plan, when that is agreed. The exact scope is set during the consultation, before any work starts.
Marketing strategy is not the same as digital marketing. Strategy is the planning, positioning, priorities, and direction behind marketing. Digital marketing is the online activities and channels that carry that plan out. If you need the online work itself, see Digital Marketing. If you need the broader business picture, see Business Consulting.
Who this service is for
Marketing strategy is built for small and medium local businesses in Toronto, the GTA, and Brantford that are doing some marketing, or want to start, but do not have a clear plan for what to do first.
It is a good fit for:
- Restaurants and cafes that want a clear plan for reaching regulars and new customers, not just random posts.
- Retail stores that want to know which channels, Google, social media, or local listings, deserve their time.
- Contractors and trades that want a plan for turning inquiries into booked work, rather than hoping for referrals.
- Professional services such as clinics, salons, and independent operators who want clearer messaging about what they offer and who it is for.
- Nonprofits that want a clearer plan for reaching supporters and growing their programmes.
If you already have a marketing plan that is working, and inquiries are coming in steadily, you may not need this service. A consultation can tell you whether a new plan, a few changes, or no change at all is the right call.
What is included
Every engagement is scoped during the consultation, so the list below is what marketing strategy can cover, not a promise that every item is included in every project. What is included is agreed in writing before work starts. Paid advertising management, advertising budgets, and campaign results are not promised unless confirmed during the consultation.
- Understanding the target customer. Who your best customers are, what they need, and how they decide to buy.
- Market positioning. What makes your business different, and how to say that in plain language customers understand.
- Brand messaging. Clear, consistent wording about what you do, who it is for, and why it matters.
- Marketing objectives. Clear goals for what your marketing should do, such as more inquiries, more bookings, or more repeat customers.
- Channel selection. Which channels deserve your time, Google, social media, listings, referrals, or partnerships, and which ones do not.
- Campaign planning. Planning a simple campaign around a service, offer, or season, with a clear message and a clear next step.
- Content strategy. What to say, how often, and where, so your posts and pages are planned rather than rushed.
- Promotional opportunities. Practical ways to promote a service or offer, without inventing a discount you cannot afford.
- Marketing calendars. A simple calendar for what to post and when, so marketing does not stop when you get busy.
- Customer journey. How a customer goes from first hearing about you to buying, and then coming back, and where that journey breaks down.
- Measuring campaign effectiveness. What to watch, views, calls, direction requests, reviews, and bookings, so you know what is working.
- Marketing partnerships. Where partnerships could fit as a marketing channel, and how to think about them, without promising signed partnerships.
- Prioritizing available resources. A short list of what to do first with the time and budget you actually have.
How the process works
- Initial consultation. Book a consultation by phone or email. Adam asks about the business, who your customers are, and what marketing you have tried.
- Understanding the business. You explain what you offer, who it is for, and what a good result would look like. You do not need formal reports or perfect records.
- Reviewing the current situation. Adam reviews your Google profile, website, social pages, and listings, and tells you straight what is working and what is not.
- Identifying priorities. Together you agree on the positioning, channels, and campaigns that will make the biggest difference first.
- Agreeing on scope. The plan, the work, the timeline, and the price are agreed before anything starts. Pricing is determined by scope and discussed during the consultation.
- Completing the work. Adam builds the agreed marketing plan and does the agreed implementation, and keeps you updated as it goes.
- Reviewing the deliverables. You go through the plan together, and ask for changes within the agreed scope.
- Discussing next steps. If ongoing support or help carrying out the plan would help, it can be arranged as a separate agreement. If not, you keep the plan and the work that was done.
What the client receives
What you receive depends on the scope agreed, but it is always something you can use. A one-time engagement can include a written marketing plan setting out your target customer, your positioning, your messaging, your channels, your campaigns, and your priorities, in plain language.
Hands-on work, such as an improved Google profile, clearer service pages, or a first month of posts, is delivered as part of the agreed scope where it is included. The Full Local Presence Bundle at $149 one time, for example, includes Google setup plus Facebook and Instagram setup, a graphics pack, first month of posts, a listings check, and a review request kit.
Ongoing support is also available as a separate arrangement. It costs more than a one-time plan, and the scope and price are agreed before it starts. You can get either a one-time plan or ongoing support, depending on what you pay for.
Who this service is not for
Marketing strategy is not the right fit for everyone, and it is better to say that up front.
- Businesses expecting a plan alone to guarantee sales, rankings, or revenue. A plan helps, but it is not a promise.
- Owners looking for overnight results. Marketing builds over time, and the plan sets realistic priorities.
- Businesses that want paid advertising results without an ad budget or a confirmed ad plan. Paid advertising management, budgets, and results are not promised unless confirmed.
- Owners who do not want to take part in the process. A good plan needs your input on customers, services, and what makes your business different.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between marketing strategy and digital marketing?
Marketing strategy is the planning behind marketing: positioning, priorities, and direction. Digital marketing is the online activities and channels that carry that plan out. Strategy decides what to do and why, digital marketing is how it shows up online.
How much does a marketing strategy cost?
Pricing is determined by the scope of work and discussed during an initial consultation. A written marketing plan and ongoing support are both available, and ongoing support costs more than a one-time plan.
Do you only write a plan, or do you do the work?
Adam does the implementation, not just the plan. The marketing plan and the hands-on work are agreed during the consultation, and the scope is set before any work starts.
Do you manage paid advertising?
Paid advertising management, advertising budgets, and campaign results are not promised unless confirmed during the consultation. Marketing strategy focuses on planning, positioning, and priorities, including which channels deserve attention.
Is marketing strategy available in Toronto and Brantford?
Yes. Adam serves Toronto and the GTA, and Brantford and surrounding communities. Meetings are by appointment, and consultations and work arrangements can be discussed when booking.
How long does it take to build a marketing strategy?

What information will I need to provide?
Who your customers are, what you offer, what you have tried so far, and what a good result would look like for you. You do not need formal reports or perfect records to start.
Is ongoing support available after the plan is done?
Yes, ongoing support is available as a separate arrangement. It costs more than a one-time plan, and the scope and price are agreed before it starts.
